Take the morning train ride from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, to enjoy a scenic ride amidst misty hills that look like cloud forests. Upon reaching Nuwara Eliya, visit a tea plantation, learn the delicate art of plucking tea leaf and visit the factory to observe how Ceylon Green and Black tea is processed. After enjoying a hot cuppa, explore Victoria Park, the Racecourse, Lake Gregory and spend some relaxing time at the lake. Enjoy high tea at the magnificent Grand Hotel, a proud hallmark of the Elizabethan era. Return to Kandy for a late dinner.
Touted as one of the most spectacular train journeys in the world, your trip to the quaint hill town of Nuwara Eliya will be made memorable by dramatic, green landscapes of tea plantations, forests, and mountains punctuated by rivers and waterfalls.
Stroll through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort and explore its colonial and historic architecture. From the old fort gate with the British Coat-of-Arms inscribed on it, the Old Dutch Hospital, the clock tower and the light house built in the 1800s, to Dutch colonial style houses, the Dutch Reformed Church, and the National Maritime Museum, this immersive experience will take you back in time. The tour also visits Galle Vegetable and Fish Market situated in the city centre to observe the bustling local life. After spending several hours on foot, end the trip with a refreshing coconut and a traditional Sri Lankan lunch.
First constructed four centuries ago, Galle Fort is a must-visit destination for being a perfect melting pot of old and new. Here chic cafes and shops populate meticulously preserved streets and alleys, and the fort’s walls overlook the vast horizon, providing a perfect avenue for sun, seas and adventure.
