Giving someone a helping hand up a mountain

Extending The ChildSafe Message to Partners

Our wonderful Discova ChildSafe Ambassadors recently rolled out a condensed version of our ChildSafe training to partners. A vital element of the ChildSafe movement is to continue spreading the message and raising awareness of the ChildSafe principles within our industry.

In this spirit, we figured we would like to extend the invitation to all our partners and clients who wish to participate in this training, and remind everybody what the ChildSafe movement is all about. Get in touch with us to learn more.

ChildSafe tips

ChildSafe is a movement that proactively engages with organisations and businesses to share the tools and knowledge needed to protect children worldwide. Children are vulnerable to many different risks and forms of abuse, which they can encounter in various scenarios around the world. It’s Childsafe’s founding mission to keep these children safe. Unfortunately, like many other industries, tourism is liable to adopt harmful behaviours to children – even if many of the participants are unaware of this.

Childsafe seeks to address this. Through training programmes, vigorous awareness campaigns, and constant support, we can work together to combat the various malpractices that negatively affect children. Forming partnerships to share and discuss solutions is essential to achieving these aims.

This is where we can help.

Being a ChildSafe-certified business means making a commitment to promote awareness. Our vast worldwide network gives us a platform to help spread the word and give our partners the chance to make a difference too.

The Training

Becoming a certified business constitutes extensive pre-training research and honest self-assessments of processes to prevent risk. Passing the essential internal training can take up to four weeks.

Our Ambassadors are offering our partners a snapshot view of the ChildSafe movement – an opportunity to ask questions, receive feedback, and share ideas about how we can cooperate further to communicate this essential education with our mutual customers.

These free sessions give a brief overview of ChildSafe’s 7 standards. The workshop element involves some scenarios in which children may be considered to be at risk or vulnerable, prompting discussion on why this may be and the correct course of action.

Participants’ feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with those involved stating that the training had helped them to better understand the challenges that we face concerning child protection in tourism. The workshop aims to instil confidence in participants so that, going forward, they will know the appropriate course of actions necessary to address any issues that they face regarding children’s welfare.

We are thrilled to have been a mediator in this exchange, passing on knowledge and awareness to our valued partners. In doing so, we have taken a step in fulfilling our ongoing commitment to raising familiarity with ChildSafe’s message – one of the many planned initiatives over the coming months.

Michaela Connor, one of Discova’s ChildSafe Ambassadors, says, “Being a certified business is not just a title or a certificate on the wall. We take the guidelines, training, and helping the ChildSafe Movement spread awareness very seriously.”

“We invite any of our partners and clients to get in touch to find out more about these sessions. What better time than during this enforced break to reflect on our practices. In doing so, we can ensure that everything is in place to protect vulnerable children in our communities as much as those travelling with us. Together we can make a huge positive impact in our local communities.”

We see our ongoing relationship with ChildSafe as a fundamental and crucial aspect of our Responsible Travel initiatives. While Responsible Travel often evokes questions of sustainability or animal welfare issues, it’s important to remember that people make up a large part of our industry, too. By extending this invitation of free sessions to our partners, we encourage everybody to discuss complex issues concerning the wellbeing of children in our communities.

These free sessions are available to any Discova partner. Go ahead and contact your account manager to begin the process of arranging some training, or send an email to our teams.
