In line with our current growth plans, Discova is happy to announce the appointment of Olivia Yeji Jeung as the Country Manager for Japan, effective 01 July 2024. She will be responsible for the on-ground, day-to-day development and execution of our business in Japan.
Olivia, who was born in Seoul, South Korea and grew up mainly in Boston, in the US, has lived in Japan for over 15 years and holds a Master’s degree in Japanese Linguistics and Literature. During her career, she has held several leadership roles in international firms like American Express, Booking.com, and Expedia, but her first job in Japan was as coordinator for international relations, which sits under the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Delighted to welcome Olivia to the robust team, Peter Christiansen, Discova’s Director of Operations says, “Olivia brings a wealth of experience to our organisation, and we’re excited about the fresh perspectives and valuable insights she will contribute to our operations in the Japanese market.
A woman with multiple interests and hobbies, in her spare time Olivia loves playing various sports and traveling through the backroads of the countries and places she visits, including Japan’s best-kept secret, Yokohama. She also loves reading and eating good food.
Speaking of sports, Olivia plays Ice Hockey thrice a week. Yes, you heard it right! She is the goalkeeper for a local team Blue Bears, playing for both women’s and mixed teams. So, it would not be surprising, if, one day, a new tour emerges where we explore Ice Hockey in Japan.
Describing herself, Olivia says she loves to meet new people, prefers face-to-face interactions and spending time with suppliers and agents alike. She is ecstatic to join Discova and help our business in Japan grow to new heights.
“I am excited to grow the Japan business with our fresh and capable team, and I am more than happy to support each team member’s professional growth while we boost the crazy travel demand in the market! I hope the expertise I have built through my past experiences will be useful to Discova Japan,” adds Olivia.
As an active and adventurous traveller, she signs off by recommending her favourite place in Japan for like-minded tourists.
“I really like Hokkaido as it’s a perfect place to enjoy a variety of nature, great food, and leisure, including skiing!” she concludes.
