Day 4: Siem Reap – Battambang
A 3-hour drive to Battambang, famous for its French colonial architecture, rural scenes, and the rubies and garnets mined in this province. Explore the sites with the guide, including the governor’s residence and the Romcheik 5 gallery – an art space supporting young local artists. Then, visit Wat Kor for an insight into local life. Locals give the visitors a short tour of the village, explain their history, and show them around a traditional Khmer home. Eat dinner at a social enterprise restaurant where proceeds go to helping the local community.
Day 5: Battambang
A full-day tour of Battambang that includes exploring ancient temples such as the 11th-century Wat Phnom Banan, and Ek Phnom Temple, and a ride on the unique Bamboo train. After lunch, visit a local fishing village before heading to Phnom Sampeau, a natural rock formation which contains a series of caves – once a stronghold for the Khmer Rouge. At around 5pm, visit Bat cave for a spectacular natural event as thousands of bats vacate the cave as dusk falls.
